Building Democratic Capacity Through Cross-Party Collaboration

The Centre for Political Leadership (CPL) program strengthened democratic governance in Nepal by bringing together 21 mid-level influential political leaders from nine national parties for comprehensive political leadership development. This program was delivered through three intensive residential workshops between November 2024 and January 2025, the program equipped participants with essential skills in strategic communications, evidence-based policy development, and democratic decision-making processes. Drawing from international best practices and adaptive leadership principles, CPL facilitated cross-party dialogue and collaboration among leaders across the party lines. Participants from the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), and six other national parties engaged in substantive discussions on shared governance challenges, developing frameworks for transparent decision-making and citizen-centered outreach strategies.

The program’s curriculum addressed critical gaps in Nepal’s political leadership capacity through interactive learning methodologies, mentorship opportunities with senior politicians, and practical application of democratic governance tools. Participants demonstrated significant growth in their ability to craft compelling public narratives, integrate research into policy formulation, and build consensus within party structures. By fostering a network of reform-minded leaders committed to strengthening democratic institutions, CPL contributed directly to enhancing public trust in politics and governance across Nepal’s diverse political landscape.
